Supanova Sydney 2021

Chris Andrews' books at Supanova 2021

If you’ve never been to an event like Supanova, ComiCon or the like, you’re missing out! They’re a lot of fun, and even the Covidapocalypse couldn’t kill off the enthusiasm attendees brought with them.

While attendance was down due to poor weather (it was wet and cold) and a fresh outbreak of Covid which kept five Supa-stars from being there, there were still plenty of people desperate to be at one of the first big social events since Covid began.

I had a great time talking to fantasy fans about my shiny new copies of Moonlit Genesis. Some people thought they’d seen the cover before, though nobody knew where. If you’ve seen something similar, do me a favour and let me know where via the comments below. I’m curious.

Considering it was a fan event, I was a little surprised at how many people were also keen to get their hands on a copy of Character and Structure or one of the workbooks (or both), and not just my fiction. I sold copies to film producers, school teachers and writers-in-the-making.

One man, who bought a copy for his daughter, asked what the ‘Unholy Alliance’ subtitle was about. In case you’re not in the know, it’s an in-joke.

Many writers tend to favour either character (including dialogue, emotions, etc) or structure (including big ideas and worldbuilding), but there’s something of an unwritten rivalry between the two.

As a general rule, they don’t like to party together, but they have to. Hence the in-joke.

Here’s a picture of me and my stand prior to the event.

Absolutely. Unfortunately the region went into lockdown straight afterwards due to a worsening COVID outbreak. 😟
