Update on The Creature Sanctuary books

I hope everything’s going well and you’ve been enjoying some great books.

I’ve finished The Last Wish (A collection of short stories in The Witcher series), Chosen (Demon Hunter #1), The Midnight Library, Chosen (The Warrior Chronicles #1), and The Trials of Blackbriar Academy (Blackbriar Academy #1).

Of those, The Last Wish was pretty good and I enjoyed The Midnight Library.

What I’m working on

I’ve decided to write a third book in what I’m now calling ‘The Creature Sanctuary series’ to follow Afterglow and Menagerie. This would mean delaying the release of both as I want to put them all out together.

“Err, what?” I hear you ask. “Wasn’t Afterglow supposed to be a standalone book?”

Err, yes. Good point. If I’d stuck with that it would have been published by Christmas.

In fact, I tried to get Afterglow and Menagerie done in the same time frame and probably could have gotten them over the line, but it would have meant rushing them.

Quantity over quality. I’m not a fan of that approach. My characters deserve better and so do you.

Afterglow began when I challenged myself to write a steamy romance, and I did. I just didn’t like the steamy romance side very much. I’ve since deleted most of it. Most.

A steamy romance stood to reason considering the concept: What happens when a sex addict meets an incubus? It seemed like a good fit for a steamy romance, and in another writer’s hands it would have been.

I gave it a shot, but the characters took on lives of their own, developed relationships I hadn’t seen coming, and eventually led me on an entirely different journey. A somewhat darker and grittier journey, I might add.

In fact, I’ve intentionally removed a lot of the sass and humour because of that – and also because I didn’t want it sounding too similar to Moonlit Genesis and Epicentre. Like the steamy side, some of it remains, but most is gone.

The third book will continue that tone. I’ve even got a name for it. Maybe I’ll share it with you soon.  😉
